Knysna Oyster Festival’s Miss Pearl crowned

This year’s Miss Pearl Beauty Pageant, held on Thursday 2 July, was a thoroughly entertaining event coordinated by Charmaine Kruger of Go South Models, with a fabulous cheese and wine buffet provided by the venue, Simola Hotel, and great musical entertainment from compère Neels Moir.

Judges, who included Knysna’s Executive Mayor Eleanore Bouw-Spies and Mrs South Africa finalist Joani Johnson of Mossel Bay, watched finalists in five categories strut their stuff on the catwalk before declaring the winners in each category. The winner of the 18-25 category, Jody Calitz from George, was crowned Miss Pearl of the 2009 Pick n Pay Knysna Oyster Festival, with Theana Badenhorst and Gaby de Souza her princesses. Miss Pearl 2008, Pauline Jaobs was there to hand over her crown.

As Miss Pearl, Jody will attend and participate in a number of Oyster Festival events.
