Thank you to residents of the Greater Knysna Area and Hoekwil for helping the Rotary Club of Knysna to raise funds for the local community.

 

MOUNTAIN BIKE EVENTS

Saturday 3rd July - The 85km start takes place at 0800 followed by the 50km starts at 0900 and the 15km start thereafter.

 

PLEASE NOTE – The start and finish venue for the MOUNTAIN BIKE race is ON WATERFRONT DRIVE – KNYSNA.

 

All starts take place on WATERFRONT DRIVE.  The start times have been structured in order to alleviate congestion on the final single track of the 85km and 50km routes. The West side of Waterfront Drive will be closed from around 06h00 until the last cyclist returns.

 

The 85km, 50km and 15km  events end at Waterfront Drive. Competitors will cross the National Road (please be careful!) as they come out of the Salt River Road. Cyclists will cross the National Road that is open to traffic,  before reaching the finish on Waterfront Drive. Please obey the Traffic Officials.

 

ROAD RACE EVENTS

Sunday 4th July 2010 – start from 08h00

PLEASE NOTE – The start and finish venue for the ROAD RACE IS ON WATERFRONT DRIVE – KNYSNA.

 

The start order is as follows:

All 100km categories and then the 50km start groups.

 

THE ROAD RACE ROUTES - ROUTE DANGER ZONES

The west side of Waterfront Drive will be closed to traffic from around 0600 until the last rider finishes. Traffic will have alternative routes clearly marked out for them.

The road routes (see map) are scenic and challenging routes. Cyclists MUST NOTE that they are RACING ON A NATIONAL ROAD and all cyclists are to obey all traffic officials and marshals along the route.

 

The following areas have been identified as areas where cyclists should ride with EXTRA CAUTION:

Welbedacht Turn Off

Brenton / Belvidere Turn Off

Buffalo Bay Turn Off

THE SEDGEFIELD 50km/100km SPLIT/50kmTURNAROUND

Traffic Lights in Sedgefield

Turn off to Hoekwil

THE HOEKWIL HILL – There are potholes and the railway crossing at the bottom of the hill can be dangerous. Ride responsibly!

The turnoff back on to the N2 FROM HOEKWIL

 

Riders will CROSS TRAFFIC AS THEY RIDE in to Knysna – this will be done after the Welbedacht turnoff. Please OBEY THE TRAFFIC OFFICERS. Riders will be taken across the flow of traffic in to the right hand lane that will be cordoned off with delineators and dedicated to riders who will ride to the finish on Waterfront Drive.

 

You are riding on the NATIONAL ROAD that is NOT CLOSED TO TRAFFIC – You are competing at your own risk - please ride responsibly!

 

CHILDREN’S EVENTS

Sunday 4th July 2010 – start at 10h00 – Limited entries!

Please note the venue for the Children’s Race (ages 2 – 9 year olds) is at Steenbok Park on Leisure Island. Children who are 10 years and older may ride in the 15km mountain bike event on Saturday 3rd July.
